|
|
Hello
Am trying the trial version of Giga Teleport to see if i can use Performance Tool with it.
I've read the forum in detail and that was the most relevant post :
| Quote: | I've installedVSL perf tool's working fine here -I use Maple Virtual Midi Cable as the link between GVA and the performance tool with the following settings:-
On VSL performance tool:-
Midi Input = MAPLEMIDIIN:PORT1 Midi output = NEMESYSMIDIOUT:PORT1
On GVA:-
Under "giga midi ports" - VST Port[1] - deselect the port (so it's blue not white), and under "external midi port" - select from the dropdown list "Maple Midi Out: Port 1" |
Problem is on GT, when i open the dropdown menu, only choices listed are :
--
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
check it out :
Can someone please explain me how to solve that issue ?
i really need to work this out,
thanks !

You also need to install VSL MIDI router.

OK, let's start again. Please confirm what you have installed on which PC.

ok
When i first posted, config was :
- - - - - - -
PC1 ( cubase SX )
- - - - - - -
Giga Teleport HOST
VSL perf tool
VSL midi router
Maple Virtual Midi Cable
- - - - - - -
PC 2
- - - - - - -
Giga Teleport SERVER
Giga Studio 3
- - - - - - -
i could select a seemingly good routing for the midi track but couldn't input it back inside Giga Teleport (previous screen captures).
- - - - - - - - - -
Now, i've installed the midi routing drivers and VSL perf tool on my slave PC and uninstalled them from the main one, so it looks like :
- - - - - - -
PC 1
- - - - - - -
Cubase SX
Giga Teleport Host
- - - - - - -
PC 2
- - - - - - -
GigaStudio3
Giga Teleport Server
VSL perf tool
VSL midi router
Maple Virtual Midi Cable
- - - - - - -
As a result, the list of routing when i right click inside Giga Teleport is much better :
Still, routing doesn"t work :
Lets say only PC 1 has VSL midi router or Maple VMC installed, i believe these routings stay local only. (that's what happened first)
Now lets say only PC 2 has VSL midi router or Maple VMC installed, i can see them in the Giga Teleport listing for external outputs, but i cannot select them as an output to my midi track.
And finally if i have VSL midi router or Maple VMC installed on both PC 1 and PC 2, then it still doesnt work cause VSL midi routings for PC 1 stay local, so as VSL midi routings PC 2 : each computer has his own sets of virtual midi routings, they are named the same, but they are independant and do not communicate together.
cause the only real link betwin PC 1 and PC 2 is thru the Giga Teleport wire...
. . .
Next i considered using an external connection, i mean a real midi cable :
PC1 --> real physical midi cable --> PC2 --> perf tool --> gigateleport external input -->Gigastudio
-------------------
in detail :
-------------------
on PC 1 :
midi track output set to --> midi out Uno cable
Midi out uno cable connected to ---> midi in of AC97 soundchip from PC 2
( in reality, this stage isn"t done yet cause i need to go thru a synth with a midi THRU port, so i modelled the connection by connecting directly my master keyboard to midi/joystick cable of the AC97, to keep it simple in the description [this is a joke] )
on PC 2 :
VSL performance tool in : " midi in port of PC 2's AC97 soundchip "
VSL performance tool out : " Maple midi out:port 1 "
Gigateleport :
Port 1 declicked ( blue, not white )
and external midi port set to : " Maple midi out:port 1"
Gigastudio configured with :
Port 1 : FX-MAX Giga Bridge 1
-------------------
Problem is i cannot select the same port for
the " out of the performance tool " and
the " external midi port " of gigateleport,
cause i get this message :
cause my slave PC 2 was built just for this purpose i wasn't sure midi in from ac97 was working. after investigating internet, i turned on the mpu 401 option in my bios and installed manually the AC97 drivers. i then installed a standalone virtual instrument on my slave PC just to see if i could play using the midi in : i can. so the problem doesn't come from AC97.
I usually never give up but i must say this thing doesnt seem to work at all.
DG, what do you think ? |

OK, I'm a bit worse for wear this morning, so bear with me if I appear a little slow, but you now seem to have things installed on the correct PCs (as well as a few extra installations)...!
In the Cubase Inspector you select Giga Port 1 (or whatever it is called) as that tells Cubase to send the MIDI via GT. Then in the GT window you unclick the little white square next to Port 1 and select VSL router out 1 from the menu. This then tells the MIDI not to go straight to GS. On the slave PC you then set the performance tool to be VSL router 1 in and Giga Port out 1 (for port 1) and finally set GS MIDI in ports (in settings) to be "none". If my addled brain has it right this should mean that the MIDI flow goes from your Cubase MIDI track to GT window, through VSL out (to stop it going straight to GT), via VSL router to Performance Tool, and then out to GS.
Let me know how you get on.

Hey D ! IT WORKS ! ahahah !
I leave the exact workplan for next people asking :
Problem people usually meet is that they dont know what is the exact setup : they can install VSL Performance tool on the wrong computer, or chain elements in a non working order.
A -
create a Local Network betwin your two PCs with RJ45 and so on.
There are plenty of tutorials about this subject on the web.
B -
on master PC, install Cubase and Giga Teleport HOST setup.
C -
on slave PC, install softwares in this order (VERY IMPORTANT) :
1 - (ASIO4ALL driver, if your slave PC has no soundcard, let's say just a AC97 chip)
2 - Giga Teleport SERVER setup (this will create "GSIF drivers" whether you have a soundcard or not)
3 - Giga Studio (if you install it BEFORE Giga Teleport Server, it will detect NO GSIF driver and will run in Rewire Mode only, and you won't have the Giga Midi Port routings you will need inside the VSL performance tool. So GT first ! )
4 - VSL midi router
5 - VSL Performance Tool
PS : Maple VMC (virtual midi cable) can replace the VSL midi router if it doesn't work.
D -
In the GS, set MIDI IN ports (in settings) to be "none".
In the Cubase Inspector of the MIDI TRACK you choose, select Giga Port 1 (or whatever it is called) as that tells Cubase to send the MIDI via GT.
On the slave PC you then set the performance tool to be VSL router 1 in and Giga Port out 1 (for port 1).
Then in the GT window you unclick the little white square next to Port 1 and select VSL router out 1 from the menu. This then tells the MIDI not to go straight to GS.
Each time you run your Cubase Project, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO SET THE VSL PERFORMANCE TOOL ins and outs BEFORE setting the GT external midi port otherwise the routing doesn't work.
Thanks DG for your efforts, i go back to music now.
peace,
DR

Glad you got it working. FWIW you shouldn't have to set the PT every time you open it, as it remembers the settings.
