After conferring with Max, we are going to make every effort to deliver progress reports as we continue to develop the FX Teleport 2 product. I have placed this in the news and announcements section so we can keep it one place.
I want to say that the Mac version is not a simple port, it is nearly a total rewrite of the entire product. Early on, I think the impression was given that it would be a port of FX Teleport 1, but that impression was not correct, FXT 2 is an entirely new product.
New Core Technologies
FXT 2 features some exciting new core technologies, many of which have been requested by the users. Here is the short list.
• kernel level Ethernet streaming for Mac and PC
• virtual ASIO driver
• VNC-based remote control
• independent plug-in and host loading
• core Mac port
• protocol-independent plug-in communication
• AU/VST/DirectX/Rewire connectors
• standalone ASIO/KS/DirectX/MME/CoreAudio output
• studio manager
I am sure when the product goes to market, all of these features will packaged under some very clever eye-catching name. Until then, I will stick with this list.
So, as you can see, FXT 2 is more than an upgrade, it is a whole new product. This is a truckload of new features in the product. Some companies would spread these enhancements across 2 or 3 paid upgrades, FX-Max has chosen to make them one upgrade. The upside is that the customer will get a lot of bang for their buck; whereas, the downside is that amount of time you have to wait until this product hits the market.
Great, now we have an idea of what are going to get, where does the product development status stand?
Many of the core libraries for the new features are developed, tested, and stable on both platforms. The sticking point right now is studio manager. Studio Manager is the crux of this whole product. It is the graphical front-end that will give you access to the power of the application.
Needless to say, there is a lot going on under the hood of this product. The PC version has to talk to the Mac version and vice-versa. Not to mention, that they need to talk to machines of like platform as well. There is coding and then testing and then code fixing and more testing and so on that has to be done. It has to go on until the product is ready for prime time.
So, what is the timetable for the release?
Unfortunately, a couple of tentative release dates have come and gone. In these situations, a nasty bug crept up in the last minute testing that required some additional rewrites. While this kind of thing is a little embarrassing, letting this kind of mistake make it to the customer is very embarrassing. Max has hung his name on the company and takes pride in making the best product he can. Max has poured a lot of himself into FX Teleport; just like we do in our music. This is his art.
Right now, we are not going to set a timetable for the release of FX Teleport 2. We are going to continue to post progress reports, and then a timetable will evolve out of that.
OK R(t)O, Have you seen the product?
No, the product is not in a form that would make any sense to me. However, Max says it is real, and that is good enough for me to come out here and make these announcements.
Also, I am, at this time, a volunteer. I will not see the product until it is ready.
Is there going to be a public beta?
It is still being considered at this time.
Has pricing been determined?
You need to have a product ready to sell before you can price it.
Are you going to take pre-orders?
Not at this time.
So, this ends the first installment of a progress report for FXT 2. It's a start, and it is everything I have right now. As soon as I get anymore info, I'll get it here. Hell, maybe I can even con Max in posting an update from time to time. _________________ With Regards:
